世界遺産に登録された「能」。難曲中の難曲といわれた『卒塔婆小町』。世界三大美人とも讃えられた美女・小野小町をシテ（主人公）に、彼女を恋慕って“百夜通い”する美貌の青年、深草少将との、輪廻転生、刻をこえた恋。その幽玄の世界を、鹿鳴館、そして昭和時代へと翻案。今回初めて、本格的に“映像”で表現！
稀代の劇作家・三島由紀夫が生み出した傑作戯曲を忠実に映像化したシリーズ第一弾。根岸吉太郎・演出、寺島しのぶ、北村有起哉らをキャストに迎えた「卒塔婆小町」を収録。多数の著名人が寄稿した解説書（132ページ）を封入。
